Thalian Association Community Theatre produces five major productions annually on the Tony Rivenbark Stage at historic Thalian Hall. All of their productions are cast through auditions, which are open to the general public. Thalian was voted Wilmington’s Best Theatre Company in 2006 by the readers of Encore, the Cape Fear guide to arts and entertainment, and have since reclaimed that title for many subsequent years.
Youth Theatre offers training and performance audition opportunities for children ages 7 through 18 or high school seniors. Include on stage as actors, in the orchestra pit as musicians, or backstage as part of the design and production team. Their mission is to teach life skills through theatre education and provide an outlet for artists and technicians to develop and exercise their crafts.
The mission of Wilmington Performing Arts (WPA) is to provide a welcoming, safe and equitable place for performers of all levels and abilities. Participants will develop their skills and share their talents with the community through diverse, educational and quality programming. OHTC produces two winter and four summer musicals in the regular season, as well as two additional shows for the Apprentice Theatre, totaling 65 full-length shows annually, with casts ranging from 30 to 83 technicians and entertainers, ages 7-83. Through these shows, paid positions are created for local independent contractors, musicians, and technicians, allowing Wilmington artists to perform alongside family, friends, and current Broadway, TV & Film professionals.
PCTC produces a summer stock of youth theater at the Ruth & Bucky Stein Theatre in the historic Thalian Hall! Auditions are open to ages 8-19 years. Teens can apply to join the creative team for an opportunity to learn about the production side. They cast in spring at their yearly open call. Summer Stock is a yearly tradition that provides performance fun in a semi-professional setting! Young performers will proudly earn a credit for their resumes and gain a valuable theatrical experience!
Big Dawg Productions is a non-profit community theater that currently produces around six shows a year.
